Skin rejuvenation is a treatment to resurface your skin, or to improve the texture, clarity and overall appearance of your skin

What is Skin rejuvenation? The skin rejuvenation is defined as a process that takes place to attempt the reversal of visible signs of ageing. Skin rejuvenation processes have the ability to diminish wrinkles and lines as well as firm loose and sagging areas of the skin leaving the skin with a younger appearance. There are some surgical and medical procedures that can enable this.

What can skin rejuvenation treat?

Conditions that can be treated include:

  • Static wrinkles: These wrinkles are visible at all times and do not change in appearance with facial movements.
  • Dynamic wrinkles: These are expression lines that may appear as folds when the skin is not moving, and deepen with facial movements or expressions.
  • Pigmentation: Freckles, sun spots, melasma, or other darkened patches of skin result mainly from sun exposure.
  • Scars: As the result of acne or injury to the skin, scars may be rolling (a wavy appearance to the skin), pitted, discolored, or have raised borders.
  • Vascular conditions: Blood vessels visible on the surface of the skin, vascular lesions that appear as tiny blood filled blisters or even a constant flush of facial redness.
  • Loss of skin tone: Weakening of the supportive skin structure (collagen and elastin fibers) that results in a loss of skin firmness, or the development of cellulite.

What is Laser Resurfacing?

Today variety of options are there when it comes to rejuvenating Skin. One of the newest is laser resurfacing, which can reduce facial wrinkles, scars and blemishes.

Laser skin resurfacing is also known as a laser peel, laser vaporization or lasabrasion. Concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin are sent. This removes unwanted, damaged skin in a very precise manner one layer at a time. This targeted approach means there are fewer problems with hypopigmentation, or a lightening of skin for procedures such as laser acne scar removal.

The laser beam used in laser resurfacing will remove your outer layer of skin, called the epidermis. It simultaneously heats the underlying skin, called the dermis. This action works to stimulate growth of new collagen fibers. As the treated area heals, the new skin that forms is smoother and firmer.

Laser resurfacing can improve minor facial flaws, such as:

  • Fine lines or wrinkles around or under your eyes, forehead or mouth
  • Scars from acne or chickenpox
  • Non-responsive skin after a facelift
  • Aged or sun-damaged skin
  • Liver spots
  • Improve your complexion if you have yellowish or grayish skin tones
  • Warts
  • Birthmarks such as linear epidermal nevi
  • Enlarged oil glands on the nose

Photo facial

Photo facial is a non-invasive procedure to improve the color and texture of your skin.

Photo Rejuvenation (or photo facial) is a non-invasive procedure to improve the color and texture of your skin. It is a cosmetic procedure that utilizes the properties of light to effectively treat skin conditions such as:
  • Port Wine stains
  • Rosacea
  • Hyper pigmentation
  • Broken capillaries
  • Age spots
  • Lost elasticity in the skin
  • Sun damage
  • Acne and acne scarring

These skin conditions can be minimized or eliminated with little or no “downtime” and with very minimal discomfort. This procedure promises to give you a better complexion after only one photorejuvenation treatment. The look of your skin will appear smoother and fresher.
In certain cases, additional photorejuvenation treatment may be necessary. In these cases, patients may require 2-5 photorejuvenation treatment sessions to achieve optimal results.

How does Photorejuvenation Treatment work?

When you come to our Med Spa you we will analyse your skin and decide on a photorejuvenation treatment plan.
A typical treatment plan would consist of a series of three to five photorejuvenation treatments performed at three to four weekly intervals; patients see a visible improvement in the appearance and texture of the skin from the very first treatment.
Discomfort during the treatment, which takes about 20 minutes, is minimal and the skin will look smoother even after the very first session. There is minimal recovery time required.

How is the photorejuvenation treatment performed?

Photofacial is performed using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). This non-laser medical device delivers a series of pulses of light to the skin all over the area involved. Specific settings are selected for
each treatment and a series of up to five treatments are performed at 3 to 4 week intervals.

What are treatments like?
Each treatment takes about 20 minutes. A mild amount of discomfort can be expected during
treatment but this quickly subsides. Immediately following a treatment, the skin may appear red
and flushed and tiny capillaries and brown spots may appear darker. All of these changes gradually fade over a period of hours to a few days.

What results can I expect?

You can expect to see a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries. People with visible ageing from the sun can expect to see their skin become smoother with a decrease in fine wrinkles, reduction in pore size and fading of sun spots

How soon will I see results?

After your first treatment your skin will feel smoother and will have a more even tone. These improvements are gradual and will be more visible after each treatment. Between three to five treatments are performed for optimal results.

What should I expect after treatment?

Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some very minor swelling.
This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.

Acne is a disorder of the skin follicles which gives an excess of oil in the skin and this often becomes infected with a bacteria called P.Acnes. Your body responds by trying to remove the infection and the bacteria. The result is lots of inflammation in the follicle and unfortunately, a big, red ugly spot.

Acne can affect our lives no matter if you are male or female and can cause you loss of confidence and unhappiness.

We use light Acne Treatment therapy to destroy the germs and bacteria that live in the skin and causes acne, as well as targeting the over active sebaceous glands that causes outbreaks and pustules. This Epidermal heating causes shrinkage of the inflamed sebaceous glands and helps to prevent over production of sebum. Skin might be slightly red after acne treatment however this disappears within a few hours. A course of 4 weekly acne treatments and follow ups to help to maintain the skin might be necessary. Laser acne treatment is a proven, effective way of dealing with teenage and adult acne. Our powerful but gentle laser will reduce the unsightly dark-red marks left by large ugly spots and reduce the number and frequency of spots on face, back, neck and shoulders

Vascular Veins

Varicose veins are swollen veins that you can see through your skin. They often look blue, bulging, and twisted. Left untreated, varicose veins may worsen over time

 What are varicose veins?

Arteries bring oxygen-rich blood from your heart to the rest of your body and veins return oxygen-poor blood back to your heart.
Varicose veins are swollen veins that you can see through your skin. They often look blue, bulging, and twisted. Left untreated, varicose veins may worsen over time. Varicose veins can cause aching and feelings of fatigue as well as skin changes like rashes, redness, and sores.
When you are in the upright position, the blood in your leg veins must work against gravity to return to your heart. To accomplish this, your leg muscles squeeze the deep veins of your legs and feet. One-way flaps, called valves, in your veins keep blood flowing in the right direction. When your leg muscles contract, the valves inside your veins open. When your legs relax, the valves close. This prevents blood from flowing in reverse, back down the legs. The entire process of sending blood back to the heart is called the venous pump.
When you walk and your leg muscles squeeze, the venous pump works well. But when you sit or stand, especially for a long time, the blood in your leg veins can pool and the pressure in your veins can increase. Deep veins and perforating veins are usually able to withstand short periods of increased pressures. However, if you are a susceptible individual, your veins can stretch if you repeatedly sit or stand for a long time. This stretching can sometimes weaken the walls of your veins and damage your vein valves.

What are the symptoms?

If you have varicose veins, your legs may feel heavy, tired, restless, or achy. Standing or sitting for too long may worsen your symptoms. You may also experience night cramps.
You may notice small clusters of veins in a winding pattern on your leg, or soft, slightly tender knots of veins. Sometimes, the skin on your legs may change color, become irritated, or even form sores.

Sclerotherapy Treatment for Spider and Varicose Veins
Spider and varicose veins are common in many people, aging from young to old. These unattractive veins can occur in different areas of the body, and while they do carry blood, they are not deemed necessary in general body functioning.

Sclerotherapy treatment is a non-surgical for the removal of thread veins. Sclerotherapy treatment is a simple injection method used to treat these unnecessary veins. Using a small needle, a solution is carefully injected into the veins irritating the inner vein walls causing them to swell and close up. This prevents further flow of blood through the vessels. The bodys own immune system then clears away the dead vessels. Treatment times vary from person to person, but most often more than one treatment may be required. In compliance with national health and safety standards, Sclerotherapy is always administered by our Certified RN (Registered Nurse).

What does it feel like?

The sclerosing agent is used in tiny amounts and causes a brief tingling sensation as the agent enters the vessels.

What happens after sclerotherapy treatment?

For a day or two after treatment the injection sites look rather like insect bites, but these subside quickly. Small bruises will be visible at the injection sites but will fade within a week or two. For one or two weeks the veins will probably appear more prominent than before treatment but will then usually begin to fade and continue to do so for up to eight weeks or longer.

How many treatments will I need?

On average each vein or cluster will need about three treatments for a complete removal, but this number will vary according to the extent of the condition. As the injected solution travels through the vein network, this will mean that not every thread vein in a cluster has to be injected.

How long does a treatment take?

A single sclerotherapy treatment takes between 30 and 60 minutes with an interval between treatments of 4 to 6 weeks.

Rosace

Rosace

Rosacea epidermis condition is among the most typical issue that impacts lots of people particularly within their 30s and beyond. The precise …

 What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is common and causes facial redness, flushing, thread veins and spots. Rosacea is a skin disorder that most often affects the forehead, nose, cheekbones and chin. Groups of capillaries close to the surface of the skin become dilated resulting in blotchy red areas with small bumps and sometimes, pimples. Rosacea redness can come and go, but eventually may become permanent. Rosacea skin tissue can swell and thicken and may be tender and sensitive to the touch.

Role of IPL In Rosacea?

The inflammation of Rosacea can be confused with Acne, but the two are quite different. The spots and inflammation can be controlled with medication. The redness, veins and flushing can be controlled with laser treatment. We treat the redness and broken veins of Rosacea with Intense Pulse Light using Laser machine. This delivers a pulse of red light to the broken blood vessels enabling them to heal up and fade away.

 How does it work?

It is believed that IPL has two actions that help in rosacea.

Firstly, red thread veins absorb the light energy, this makes them hot. This damage encourages the body to reabsorb them, improving appearance.

Secondly, the light energy warms the collagen fibres in the skin this stimulates new collagen and collagen remodelling, this improves the support of the small blood vessels which helps to delay the development of more thread veins.

What is the downtime and how many treatments are required?

There is usually no downtime with this procedure, and it typically requires 4 to 6 treatments. People with mild to severe rosacea really appreciate the outcome, noting 80% to 90% overall reduction in facial redness

Hyper Pigmentation

 What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a common condition where the skin develops dark spots or patches in some areas in comparison to the surrounding skin.

What causes pigmentation?

Environmental factors, sunlight, ultraviolet rays, hormonal changes all contribute to pigmentation Skin discolouration may develop by trauma to the skin, as sun spots or age spots, and melasma which are common reactions to sun exposure and aging.

Sun spots or age spots are brown discolorations which are flush with the skin usually present on the face, neck, chest, and back of the hands otherwise known as liver spots. It is a common condition developed when there is an excess of melanin deposits in the skin.

What types of pigmentation can be treated?

  • Age spots – also known as sun spots, lentignes
  • Freckles – also known as ephilides
  • Café au lait – present at birth
  • Melasma – brown patches on face (Please note that this may only be a temporary solution for hormonal pigmentation)

What is Melasma?

Melasma is also known as cholasma and appears as a patch of blotchy, brownish pigmentation on the face that develops slowly. The pigmentation is due to overproduction of melanin by the pigment cells, melanocytes that clump together and present on the surface of the skin. It may fade in time but can reappear in summer.

Melasma/Cholasma usually affects women and especially in pregnancy and if on the oral contraceptive pill.

It is thought to be primarily related to external sun exposure, external hormones like birth control pills, and internal hormonal changes as seen in pregnancy. It is more common in people that have a sallow complexion as they may have a number of melanocytes in their skin
Melasma affects the forehead, cheeks and upper lips resulting in patches of pigment. Occasionally it spreads to involve the sides of the neck.

What areas can be treated?

Any area of your face and body can be treated. The most common ones are face, neck, hands, chest and shoulders, which typically are the most exposed to the damaging effects of the sun.

What are the benefits of having pigmentation removal treatments?

  • Minimise or eliminate the appearance of pigmentation
  • Treats body and face areas
  • Minimal side effects/recovery time and make-up can be worn after treatment

What are the most common treatments for pigmentation removal?

Pigmentation removal treatments and lightening products are used to reduce darkened areas of the skin which may have resulted for hormones, sun damage and medications. Hyperpigmentation lesions can be anything from sunspots, freckles to melasma offer attributed to pregnancy or hormonal imbalances.

Depending on the cause there are several options available from laser or skin treatments combined with topical lightening products.

There are many types of treatments available to for pigmentation removal including:

  • Laser treatments
  • Glycolic and chemical peels
  • Skin lightening products

How does laser treatment work on pigmentation?

There are different types of laser depending on the type of pigmentation, area being treated and level of recovery time. Laser treatment is one of the most advanced treatments for removing unwanted pigmentation on the skin such as melasma, age spots and freckles.

The specially designed laser is absorbed only by the cells containing excessive concentrations of pigment and destroys the pigment granules. It does not destroy the surrounding tissues or remove the normal skin colour. The light pulses produced by the laser feels similar to the flicking of a rubber elastic band and for most people is not too uncomfortable. Immediate darkening is noticed after treatment. For 7-10 days the area will look like a dark scab which eventually peels off.

How many treatments will I require?

It will depend on the cause and type of pigment damage to your skin. Depending on the area to be treated, usually 2-4 treatments may be required. Prevention and protection of your skin is key to reducing further pigmentation.

How long will the treatment take?

Treatment can take a few minutes to 1 hour depending on type of treatment.

Wrinkle reduction

Wrinkle reduction

Wrinkles are caused by the breakdown of the natural collagen support layer of your skin.

 What causes wrinkles?

Everyone gets facial lines and wrinkles as they age. Wrinkles are caused by the breakdown of the natural collagen support layer of your skin. This layer, which lies just beneath your skin, is affected by external factors such as sun damage and environmental exposure. Internal conditions including the body’s natural aging process also affect this layer.

Is laser anti-wrinkle treatment safe?
Laser treatment is simple and safe. The lasers are non-invasive and do not burn or cut your skin in any way. We use the latest most advanced lasers

How does laser anti-wrinkle treatment work?
Laser anti-wrinkle treatment is a non-surgical face lift. Our advanced laser technology helps to create firmer tighter skin by heating the underlying layers in the skin and forming new collagen resulting in smoother, younger-looking skin. Only the skin beneath the surface is affected by the laser. The final result is firmer skin, more defined facial contours and a more youthful appearance.

How effective is laser anti-wrinkle treatment?
Laser anti-wrinkle treatment provides multiple benefits including skin tightening, a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles, improvement in skin tone and texture, decrease in pore size and a more plump appearance to the skin.

What are the long term benefits of laser anti-wrinkle treatment?
Laser treatment can induce collagen formation in the dermal skin layer to create new collagen-rich plump looking skin and tighten sagging or drooping skin in a way that no cosmetic skincare products can.
Once the collagen in the skin is heated to a temperature above 60 degrees centigrade, it contracts and tightens. Ageing collagen strands are looser and less dense than “young” collagen. Laser treatment causes immediate skin tightening as well as improved tone and texture. New collagen growth will continue for four to six months post treatment.

Does laser anti-wrinkle treatment hurt?
During laser anti-wrinkle treatment many patients experience no discomfort at all whilst some report feeling a mild level of discomfort similar to the feel of a rubber band being snapped against the skin.

How long does laser anti-wrinkle treatment take?
Treatment time is dependent on whether face only or both face and neck are being treated at the same time, but typically less than an hour is required per session, so can be easily fitted into your lunch hour!. While improvement may be seen in a single session, several treatments will be needed for optimum results.

How many laser anti-wrinkle treatments are required?
A treatment programme of 4-6 laser anti-wrinkle treatments spaced approximately 4 weeks apart is recommended to optimum results and in most cases will produce a significant increase in dermal collagen, remodeling of dermal matrix components, and a resulting improvement in overall skin tone and vitality.

How quickly will I see results?
Some improvement can be seen following the very first treatment. Maximum results are seen about 90 days after the last laser anti-wrinkle treatment.

How long does recovery take?
The treatment is non-invasive with no external injury to the skin and virtually no recovery time necessary. You can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment e.g. return to work or reapply makeup immediately following the procedure. The full face and neck can be treated in just one hour.

What is Dehydrated skin?

Dehydrated skin relates to moisture loss and surface dehydration of the skin. It is associated with problems as diverse as scaly, taut skin, superficial lines and premature aging. Skin dehydration affects up to 98% of the populations in varying degrees and can occur for the following reason;

– Over cleansing
– Skin damage (such as sun exposure)
– Neglect and bad habits (not drinking enough water, smoking and alcohol)
– Medication and illness
– Inadequate moisturizers
– Scrubs
– Air conditioning and climate
– Hot showers
– Diet: (excessive intake of salt, coffee etc)

What is the recommended treatment for dehydrated skin?

We recommend the following treatments for reducing skin dehydration:

  • Lacto Peel
  • IPL Skin Rejuvenation

Alipic Skin

Alipic Skin

Alipic means lacking oil. Alipic skin is where the oil glands dont produce enough sebum.

  What is Alipic Skin?

Alipic means lacking oil. Alipic skin is where the oil glands dont produce enough sebum. This is the true form of underactive skin. The skin often looks normal to fine in texture, but it is dull. The follicles are quite invisible. This skin is delicate, easily irritated and rough. It may be prone to reddening or may be quite sallow (yellowish). It usually feels tight. This type of underactive skin in young and pre-menopausal women is not normal and its causes, treatment and nature are highly individual. In addition to not producing enough oil, there is not enough perspiration being secreted, as the problem lies with a generally lowered rate of metabolism. The horny layer needs both sebum and perspiration in adequate amounts, along with moisture from the atmosphere, to make its magic mix of protective film.

 Considerations of Alipic Skin

The underactive skin is doubly at risk. It potentially lacks the two most important defenses against premature aging: lubrication to keep it supple and the ability to hold moisture.

1) Correct Cleansing: Probably the most fundamental tool in maintaining skin health and beauty is cleansing, if done correctly. It is important to avoid harsh cleansers such as soaps, detergents (anything that foams), oil-free, perfumed cleansers and certain water-soluble cleansers since they all favor the removal of sebum. Also hot water, especially from showers, should be avoided since the heat and friction removes the sebum and invites capillary damage. Warm water only should be used on the face. Astringent toners, (those containing alcohol) should be avoided since they strip sebum and aggravate the capillaries. Scrubs should also be avoided since they break down cell cohesion in the horny layer, reducing the skins capacity to retain moisture. And finally, dry the face after washing. By allowing the skin to dry by evaporation, we are creating conditions for chapping. If you must use atomized mineral waters, which have no real value other than to feel refreshing, be sure to blot the face dry.

2) Sufficient Lubrication and Protection on a Routine Basis: It is very important to lubricate alipic skin because this is what protects from the climatic conditions that we have no control over. Sun, wind, cold, heat and seasonal changes, produce the atmospheric conditions that remove moisture from the skin. Artificially heated and/or air-conditioned buildings and airplanes tend to be very arid. Exposure to the elements is the biggest factor in skin aging. Unfortunately, for true dry skin types, the most popular moisturizers are the oilemulsified in a large amount of water variety. They are very light in texture, sometimes even milky, and absorb readily into the skin. The skin feels softer, but once the water evaporates, there is not sufficient fat or oil in the moisturizer to protect the skin. In fact, the skin is left utterly unprotected, because the oil-in-water emulsion also has the property of absorbing oils on the skins surface and degreasing the skin! In overactive skin it aggravates reactive seborrhea, but for true dry skin it spells disaster. In order for a cream to restrict the evaporation of moisture from the horny layer and actually protect against climatic factors, there must be a sufficient layer of fat, that is also at to mix with the epidermal fats, augmenting the natural barrier.

Blemishes Treatment

image

Blemishes are marks or areas of discoloration on the skin.

 What are blemishes?

Blemishes are marks or areas of discoloration on the skin. They can be raised off of the skin or flat, and come in a range of colors. Since there are many different types of blemishes with many different causes, the treatment for each is a little different. Common types include acne, scars, birthmarks, age spots, and an uneven skin tone.

What causes blemishes?

  • Pimples
  • Trauma (e.g. improper comedo removal)
  • Cuts
  • Sun Exposure
  • Aging
  • Diseases (e.g. chickenpox)
  • Systemic conditions (e.g. liver problems)
  • Warts
  • Skin tags
  • Acne and Acne Scars
  • Inflammation
